Why should one visit Rincón de la Vieja?

The Rincón de la Vieja mount is 1.916 m of altitude and it’s a compound structure.
At the summit there have being identified 9 eruptive points, one active and the rest not active or in process of deactivation. South from the crater there is a pure water lagoon.

At the south side of the volcano base, there are 2 areas of 50 Ha called Las Pailas and Las Hornillas. Here are located thermal fountains, that produce energy to heat the water of the very hot spring rivers and the small ponds in which the muddy water boils constantly, cracks in the earth with steam jets, especially during the rainy season and mini mud volcanoes with a wide range of sizes and shapes.

Among the mammals that inhabit the area you can find: the peccary, wild goat, agouti, nine-banded armadillo, tayra, tamandua or collared anteater, two toed sloth, howler monkeys, capuchin and spider monkey. The insects are very abundant; you can find the 4 species of outstanding Morpho kind butterflies.
