A third of it is covered by the Corcovado National Park. 520 Km2 of pristine beaches and untouched forests keep one of the most important places in the world for the study and observation of the tropical rainforest and its jewels. Over 13 different ecosystems, more than 100 species of trees and around 400 bird species can be appreciated in Corcovado besides the most important populations in Meso-America of endangered species like: the Central American tapir (Tapirus bairdii), Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) and the Jaguar (Pantera onca) among many others.
