Chirripó Traditional Trail
3 days and 2 nights

Day 1) At 4:30 a.m. 4x4 vehicles will take you from San Isidro del General to San Gerardo of Rivas (1300 m / 4.256ft). The road goes for around 20Km. After having breakfast, the approximately 8 hours hike starts in San Gerardo de Rivas up to the Base Crestones in the Chirripó National Park at 3.372m / 11.063 ft. The trail takes you through the highland forests: pre-mountainous, mountainous and moorland forests. It is such a great experience to watch the different types of forests that are obviously different to the attentive eye.

Half way you find Llano Bonito an old shack, an old refuge used now just to take a break and have lunch to recover your energy. 4 hours later, finally Base Crestones, our refuge for the rest of the trip, and where you are having dinner before going to rest for the next day. (B, L, D)

Day 2) After the breakfast which is prepared by your guide, this day is the best to visit the highest summit in Costa Rica, Cerro Chirripó at 3.820m / 12532ft, . From here, if the weather is good, you can enjoy awesome landscapes such as watching the Pacific and Atlantic oceans at the same time, furthermore different areas of the park like the Valley of the Morrenas and the Valley of the Rabbits, in this place you are having a picnic lunch at the top of the mountain that you will never forget.

Afterwards, we will hike to Mount Terbi at 3760m / 12352ft, Los Crestones, (a Spectacular Rock formation and finally on the way back to base, in these part of the trip you can take a hike around Rio Talari, while your dinner is been prepared.(B,L,D)

Day 3) After having breakfast, we will start the hike down the mountain back to San Gerardo de Rivas where we are having lunch before traveling to San Isidro as well in 4X4 vehicles. (B, L)

The tour includes:

• Transportation from Hotel in San Isidro - San Gerardo de Rivas - San Isidro, meals (3B,3L,2D), entrance fees to Chirripó National Park, 2 nights of lodging in Crestones Base Lodge, hikes in the park, bilingual guide and travel insurance.
• We don't include energy food during hikes and lodging in San Isidro the night before or after the trip.

What to bring:

Hiking shoes (waterproof are recommended), rain jacket and rain pants, fleece coat, hat and good sunscreen, camera (200 ISO Film recommended), sunglasses, hiking poles (recommended - available for rent in San Gerardo), sandals or shoes for inside the lodge, sleeping bag (no sleeping pad necessary), towel, personal medicines, energy food, warm clothes (for inside and outside), daypack, flashlight with extra batteries.
